Flannel Vest: McCall's 7830

So, I found an unopened sheet set in my closet, which was likely purchased by my grandfather years ago. When I came across it I was so excited because I had been on the fence about purchasing plaid or flannel fabric to make this vest.  I have decreased fabric shopping tremendously over the past 6 months, and the thought of breaking my streak for this particular project just didn't sit right with me.

I modified Mccall's 7830 to get this look. I was able to squeeze the vest out of one pillowcase. I lengthened the pattern by seven inches and added pockets. Because I added pockets I didn't use the M7830 instructions to sew this instead I used the instructions for M7695. The vest is lined with fleece scraps, which is why it doesn't match, but that didn't bother my niece one bit. Between the flannel material and fleece, the vest is really warm and perfect when layered with a long sleeve shirt. The pattern has an easy button closure,  so it's great for beginners, and even easier for little ones to handle. This is a straight forward design, especially if you do not make any modifications.

I have two more winter projects planned for my niece (pullover sweater & corduroy pinafore) but at this rate, I don't think I'll get to either before it gets warmer, but that's okay because there's always next winter.
