DIY Unicorn Gatefold Invitation

Now that my niece's (Miss J) birthday party is behind me, I can share a few of the DIYs for her celebration. This project is a Cricut Craft, and I often share my Cricut projects on Instagram, but this is my first post and tutorial on my website. Miss J's current obsession is Unicorns, and with this being the first birthday party she has had since the Pandemic hit, I kicked things up a notch for this celebration. I usually make digital invitations, but this year I decided to do paper invitations delivered by hand. I still had a digital option in case I couldn't get some of the invitees their paper invitations, which came in handy because there were a couple that I did not have time to deliver. Let's get into the design.

For this project, I made Unicorn Gatefold Invitations.

Supplies and Tools:

Cricut Machine

Card Stock (Main Card Piece) ( I used glitter pattern cardstock)

Contrast Color Card Stock ( I used old file folders)

Cricut Pen ( two colors of your choice)

Glue

Light Grip Machine Mat

Fine Point Blade

Scoring Wheel

Step 1:

Load the Unicorn Gatefold Card Design in Cricut Design Space, select Make it, and follow the prompts to select your materials. You will cut using the card stock chosen for the main card piece (in my case, glitter card stock). Insert the Scoring Wheel for the first step of the design.

Step 2:

Once the scoring is complete, follow the prompts to switch to the Fine Point Blade.

Step 3:

Remove the cut pieces. Insert your Cricut Pen and load your contrast color card stock (I used old file folders) on the cutting mat. Follow the prompts on the screen to draw the different color designs on the unicorn head. Remove the cut piece.

Step 4:

Once you have cut all the pieces, it's time to assemble. Place glue around the edges of the unicorn head. Take the Unicorn Head and place it with the wrong side facing the wrong side of the main card piece. You should see the Cricut Pen Design on the inside of the card. Allow to dry, and you're done with assembly.

Step 5:

Now that you have assembled the card, you can add whatever you would like to the blank space within the card. I added the invitation information to the center by printing it on copy paper and cutting it to size. I also added a barcode to the small space on the inner right side of the card. I used sticker paper and the Cricut to cut the stickers to size. When scanned, it took invitees directly to the webpage where they could RSVP and view my niece's Gift Wishlist.

Step 6:

Last, Fold the card at the scoring lines, tucking the small rectangle on the right under the Unicorn Outline. You're done.

What do you think? I love how these came out, and I think it would be great as a birthday card for the unicorn lover in your life.
