Fushcia Floral, Square Neck Top: Simplicity 8919

It’s been an entire year since I have shared a new make in this space. While I finished a few sewing and craft projects over the past 12 months, time did not allow for as many sewing or craft projects as I would have liked, especially during spring and summer gardening season, and left me with even less time to share the completed ones. I am slowly easing back into a regular sewing routine, and I intend to have a routine for sharing those makes here.

Simplicity 8919 (Out Of Print) has sat in my pattern stash for at least two years. I knew it would be an easy project, and after working on my Mistletoe Preview Gala look, which took five days to complete, I needed easy. Simplicity 8919 is a basic knit pattern, and the pattern size range is XXS - XXL. I went with the size small based on the finished bust measurements. While the design is a basic knit top, the square neckline, sleeve options, and finishing option for the neckline make this pattern great for those wanting to add staple pieces to their wardrobe. The shoulder and neckline are finished with an elastic casing, allowing the top to be worn cold shoulder if that's your preference.

I chose View B, which has only three pattern pieces. The instructions for view B were only nine steps, which should give you an idea of how long it takes to sew, especially if you have experience with knit fabric. The instructions are well written and the illustrations are spot on. Cut to finish: it took me about three and a half hours to make this top. If you can find it through a reseller, I recommend grabbing it. I used a Liverpool double-knit fabric that I ordered from fabric.com (no longer in existence). I paired the top with my Levi's 315 and Yellow Jessica Simpson Pumps, but this would look great with flare-leg slacks for work, and I plan to give that a go soon.
