Black & White: Dionne Duster
When Mac (macmakespace) shared a sneak peek of the newest sewalteredstyle Dionne duster, I knew that I would buy it on release day. And I did! I saw it and knew which fabric would be coming off the shelf, and I did not waiver. I ordered this geometric print ponte knit along with multiple yards of other black and white print fabric from Fabrics Universe half a year ago. Since I didn't know what I would make with it, I ordered between two to three yards for each. Can you say Best Decision Ever because that yardage came in handy with this project?
The Dionne is a cardigan pattern with a duster length option. It has two sleeve options and a sleeveless option. My favorite design feature on this pattern, however, is the pocket. I love that the pocket seams are sewn between the seams of the front bodice.
I went with the sleeveless version with a side slit. I cut the size 4 and made one adjustment, shortening the duster length by half an inch. I usually go one size down for back bodice piece on jackets and cardigans, but I didn't for this project because the back piece is designed to be cut on the fold. I knew that I would need to cut two separate fabric pieces to color block, and figured that the size 4 back piece would give me an appropriate center back seam allowance. This was a fairly quick sew. I made it in three days, sewing thirty minutes to an hour each day. The illustration and instructions are excellent. I also like that it includes a quick reference instructions page (instructions without illustrations).
I styled the duster with a pair of jeans (levis), a white long sleeve t-shirt (target), and my black and white sneakers (amazon). I plan on sharing a few more style options with the duster over the next few weeks, including a work look, so be sure to follow me on Instagram. I also intend to squeeze one more project out the geometric print knit, so you'll be seeing this print make an appearance fairly soon.
