Mccall's 7830: Kid Ruffle Cuff Top

These two tops were my final two projects for the #whole30fabricchallenge, which I finished up at the end of December. The challenge was a tough one but I'm glad I tried it. It made me reevaluate my spending habits when it comes to fabric. I'm proud to say that I can walk in JoAnn and come out with what I need instead of 8 yards of fabric I didn't need because it was pretty and on sale.

If you are sewing for a kid that loves a little sleeve drama, McCall's 7830 (OOP) is a great one. It was a quick sew for me, so quick in fact that I made it twice within 3 days. It's a basic knit top with a gathered sleeve cuff and buttonhole closure.  I cut the 2 and graded it to a 3 at the waist. For reference, my niece's measurement is a 21.5 inch for the chest area.  The fabric used for the light pink version was a white knit fabric that I grabbed out of the $4 for 4 yards bin at Walmart. I dyed half of it purple and the other half pink. The fabric is thin so the bodice pieces are lined with a lightweight knit. The houndstooth knit is from Fabric Mart Fabric.

My niece loves both tops and she wore them both multiple times the last few months of winter.  I had very little time to sew in February and March because we've been prepping for spring gardening. Fortunately, I'm almost finished with that and will be getting back into the swing of the things in the sewing room, and I look forward to sharing new spring garments.
