Three Looks: Multi-Color Abstract Print

Good things do come in three. For example, the three-piece chicken tender combo box from Popeyes is one of my favorites. But if chicken or the high-calorie meal isn't your thing, here's a three-piece you can enjoy without worry. Three different garments on three different bodies made with three different patterns using the same fabric.

First up, there's my niece in McCall's 6915 (full review here) View C bodice with View A skirt. It's hard to see the seam detail on the skirt because of the busy fabric print but this skirt is perfect for a scrap-busting project. I cut the size 3 but lengthened to size 5. To complete the look she rocked her navy blue frank sandals from DSW.

Second, we have Jenell (IG: @bb_jenellm) in the Luna Tank by Helen's Closet Patterns. This is the size 32, crop length, with no modifications. We made this top during our annual birthday craft weekend (celebrating her birthday). Her top was made, pattern taping to finish, in one night. Jenell has been sewing for a few years but considers herself a beginner because she only sews 1 to 2 times a year. Most of her projects are bags or zipper pouches so she is comfortable sewing with quilting cotton. She's developing her garment-making skills, which is why we stick to beginner-friendly patterns, like the Luna Tank. Jenell loves the Luna Tank and intends to make another one this summer.

Lastly, we have me in an old TNT pattern, McCall's 6754 (full review here). I have used it several times to make dresses but this was my first time sewing it up as a peplum top. I cut a small in the bodice and graded to a medium at the waist. I also modified the neckline and armhole of the bodice using McCall's 8215 because I prefer finishing with a band instead of a narrow hem.

Jenell and I purchased this fabric 3 + years ago from a local fabric store in Orlando. Neither of us can remember the name of the store, but I am happy we purchased several yards. The fabric stretch and recovery is great and the print is fun and perfect for summer. If you enjoyed this post you are in luck, Jenell is already planning another “three piece” project.
