Flannel Shacket: Simplicity 1504

I rarely sew something because it is trending. Occasionally, there is a trending item I must have (but refuse to pay retail value for), and it lands on my sewing list. At this moment shackets are in, and how long that will last has yet to be determined. While this is not my go-to style it has been fun styling this piece and I will be wearing it as we roll into spring temperatures.

I used Simplicity 1504 to create this look. You can read my full review on the pattern here. I used this pattern a year or so ago to make loungewear, and in the post, I mentioned that this would be a good pattern to create a stylish jacket.  Well, turns out my assumption was spot on.
I did make a few modifications to achieve this look.  I shortened the front pieces by one inch, so the shacket would have a high-low look, and I did not do the piping detail. I also removed one inch from the sleeve before attaching the cuff, and I used View B mark for my split stop point.  For fabric, I used the flat sheet from the sheet set that I used to make my niece's vest.

The detail I'm most excited about on the shacket is the buttons. If you follow my Facebook or IG account, then you know I've been making my buttons using resin.  I plan on doing a detailed post on this process in the future, but I have more experimenting to do.  I will be sharing more resin-related videos during March so if that’s something you are interested in be sure to pop in on either Facebook or Instagram. Until next time creative people.

Outfit Details:  Tunic Hoodie (Amazon ), Jeans (Levi), boots (Diba)
